"Once the travel bug gets you, it's got you." These lines, spoken at the introduction of the travel TV show Departures, resonate deeply with anyone who has ever felt the irresistible lure of adventure. The hosts, two Canadian college friends, embarked on a journey to explore the world together, capturing moments and places that might now be lost to the ravages of time and conflict. Their travels were not just about visiting new places; they were about experiencing life in its myriad forms. Watching Departures allowed me to travel and experience the world through their eyes, venturing to places and countries I had never dreamed of visiting. Saying "I lived vicariously through them" doesn’t quite capture the depth of the experience. Through this show, I expanded my understanding of diverse cultures, peoples, stories, art, and ways of life. It was truly inspirational and profoundly educational, offering a window into the vast, beautiful tapestry of our world.
